CRICKET BALLS & SCOREBOOKS

Grade 'A' balls of British manufacture must be used in all League matches. Umpires and Captains will be held responsible for seeing that this rule is enforced. Each side must provide a spare ball which must conform with the specification operative within the division.

In the Premier Division and in Divisions 1 and 2, each side taking the field is required to use an official League-approved new ball, which, for the 2009 season was Duke's County International (Grade A).

In all other divisions each side taking the field must provide its own ball, which need not be a new one, but must be a quartered leather ball, conforming, in all aspects, to the M.C.C. Law of Cricket No. 5 and must be a Grade ‘A’ ball of British manufacture, as approved by the League Committee. In the lower divisions, the use, or otherwise, of a new ball shall be left to the captain of the fielding side.

At the AGM on November 11 2009, Clubs in the Premier Division and in Divisions 1 and 2 will be asked to choose which manufacturer’s ball will be regarded as the ‘official league ball’ for 2010. The chosen ball will then be purchased via the League’s bulk-buying scheme.

The following choices are available:

  1. Dukes: no increase in cost of ball but extra VAT may be added by the Government which will have to be passed on to clubs. Estimated cost to be £18 per ball.
  2. Readers: no quotation as yet to hand – but price usually very similar to Dukes
  3. Lords International: quotation received which would mean cost of £15.50 to clubs
  4. Nixon: no details to hand
  5. Oxbridge: no details to hand

There will be no change in 2010 regarding the bulk-buying requirements for clubs Official scorebooks should also be purchased from the League at an unchanged price of £12
