The following E.C.B. regulations relating to junior players must be applied in all games played under the auspices of the Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League.
1. HELMETS (Batting & Wicket Keeping)
All players under the age of 18 years old MUST wear an approved helmet, fitted with a protective grill, when batting in any game under the auspices of the Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League, or during practice with a hard ball. A helmet must also be worn when wicket keeping if standing up to the stumps.
A young player acting as a ‘runner’ must wear a helmet
Club captains and coaches have the responsibility for ensuring that this regulation is enforced.
Umpires should obtain an assurance from the player and captain if they have any doubts about the age of a player. The ‘helmet’ requirement ceases upon a player’s 18th birthday.
Parental consent not to wear a helmet should not be accepted in adult matches
2. FIELDING
The following fielding restrictions will apply in all games played under the auspices of the Hunters Estate Agent York & District Senior Cricket League. Captains are required to ensure the restrictions are not infringed. Umpires are required to stop the game until all junior players are suitably positioned.
a. Under 13 y.o. (as at 1.9.2009)
Players under the age of 13 cannot field closer than 11 yards from the middle stump except behind the wicket on the off side.
b Under 15 y.o (as at 1.9.2009)
Players aged over 13 but under 15 cannot field closer than 8 yards from the middle stump except behind the wicket on the off side.
c. Under 18 y.o.(as at 1.9.2009)
Players aged over 15 but under 18 should wear a helmet when fielding within 6 yards of the bat, except behind the wicket on the off side.
3. ECB FAST BOWLING DIRECTIVES (as revised for 2010)
Captains are required to ensure that there is no infringement of the current bowling restrictions relating to the number of overs bowled by juniors. The following restrictions relate to fast bowlers who are defined as a bowler to whom a wicket keeper in the same age group would, in normal circumstances, stand back to take the ball. There are no restrictions relating to slow bowlers but captains have a duty to ensure such bowlers are not ‘over bowled’. A ‘fast’ bowler cannot switch to ‘slow’ within a game in order to bowl extra overs.
Age max. overs per spell max. overs per day
Up to 13 y.o. 5 overs per spell 10 overs per day
U/14 & U/15 y.o. 6 overs per spell 12 overs per day
U/16 & U/17 y.o. 7 overs per spell 18 overs per day
U/18 & U/19 y.o. 7 overs per spell 18 overs per day
(Note – ages relate to midnight on 31.8.2009)
NOTE – Following the League AGM in October 2004, the UMPIRES are deemed to be the sole judges of whether a player is regarded as a fast bowler. Their decision within the context of the game shall be final.
4. JUNIOR PLAYERS IN ADULT MATCHES – ECB Guidelines
Under the new ECB ruling which will operate in 2010, any player in year 7 or below (under 12 at midnight on 31.08.2009) cannot play open age cricket with or without explicit written consent. Players in year 8 (under 13 at midnight on 31.8.2009) are allowed to play in adult cricket providing an “Explicit Written Consent” is obtained prior to play. IT IS THE CLUB’S RESPONSIBILITY TO OBTAIN THIS CONSENT
5. TEAM CARDS
Captains must indicate the age group of all players under 19 years of age on the team card which must be handed to the umpires prior to the start of the match.
Failure to act within the above regulations may render the club, captain or coach, liable in the event of an injury and may invalidate any insurance cover.
6. SCOPE
These regulations also apply to the two League Cup Competitions, the Intermediate League, the Hunters Indoor Cricket League and the York Brewery Indoor League Cup.
