PLAYER REGISTRATION & TRANSFER

GENERAL

In accordance with League rules all new players are required to be correctly registered. Please read the Registration guidelines. Failure to comply will mean the player concerned is ineligible and this, in turn, will most likely result in a 30-point deduction for each separate game in which the player appears whilst ineligible.

OVERSEAS PLAYERS

With effect from Season 2010 -
Overseas Players shall not be eligible to play in the League unless they fully comply with the definition of a Recreational Overseas Player. Clubs are required to provide conclusive evidence that a Recreational Overseas Player:

          • Has been continually resident in the UK from 1st September of the previous year.
          • Is residing in the UK for reasons other than the playing of cricket
          • Is not receiving any financial reward or incentive, in cash or kind, to play cricket
          • Is not being employed in an accommodative way in order to obtain his services as a player

JUNIOR REGISTRATION ISSUES

A number of problems have arisen in past years with regard to the registration of junior players, some of whom play junior cricket with one or more clubs and their senior cricket elsewhere.

Some clubs have opted to register all their juniors, from a very early age, in the expectation that this would prevent them playing elsewhere and that the League would then ‘govern’ the movement to other clubs. Apart from the fact that the League’s registration system does not have a name-check system which would highlight duplicated registration, the sheer volume of names on the Player Register would create an intolerable workload for the Registration Secretary.

When the new registration form was introduced at the start of the 2006 season it was agreed that the registration of any player under 16 would be implemented on production of a club junior "signing on" form. However this has proved to be inadequate in spotting juniors who have switched clubs.

As a consequence, the following procedure is now in place

  • Only junior players who have reached their 13th birthday should be registered with the League
  • Any player below the age of 13 who plays in the League in compliance with Rule 24-D must be shown in the ‘Unregistered Player Box’ on the result sheet on his first appearance. He will then be tied to that club for the remainder of the season unless released by either a transfer or junior loan (click to download JL form in PDF format)
  • Any player appearing in the ‘Unregistered Player Box’ must be properly registered before he makes a second appearance
  • ALL registrations must now be submitted via the League’s Player Registration Form – the submission of a junior signing-on form will not be acceptable.
  • The onus rests totally with clubs to ensure that junior players are not registered with, or have played for, another club as required by YCB Rule 11.2 f. The League will only take issue with clubs in respect of breaches of League rules and will not become involved in inter-club disputes relating to players who have not appeared in matches under the jurisdiction of the League.
