Woodhouse Grange won the President’s Challenge Trophy in a seasonal opener when they defeated Sessay by 76 runs in a repeat of last season’s Hunters Premier Cup Final. Grange’s success owed much to wicket keeper batsman Mike Burdett who savaged the opposition bowlers as he hit an unbeaten 103 off a mere 65 deliveries. He was particularly destructive in the letter part of his innings which saw him add his second fifty runs off just 15 deliveries as he failed to register off only two balls as Grange piled on 107 in the last eight overs to close on 227-7. Openers Jonathon Bean 41 and Nick Hadfield 33 set a solid foundation with an opening stand of 79 before Burdett batted serenely despite losing partners on a regular basis as Matt Till emerged with 5 for 23 off his allotted 8 overs.
