Report on 4th Round of Fixtures played on Sunday 21st June, 2009

Round Four fixtures in the York and District Intermediate League saw Welton and Brough Captain Ben Watkin register an undefeated century in dramatic fashion hitting the last ball of the innings for a six to reach 101 not out as his side amassed a mammoth 323 for 9 at League newcomers Drax C.C. The Welton innings also featured half centuries for fellow opener Peter Greene (64 not out) and brother David Watkin (54 retired), Chris Calvert (4 for 31) picking up 4 wickets for the home team.

Drax hung on for the draw at 165 for 9,John Torn (49) top scoring, batting at number five, with Peter Greene (5 for 25) capping a fine all round performance.

Other games in the Southern Section saw Fenner record their third outright win, beating Woodhouse Grange by 6 wickets, both sides fielding weakened teams due to other club matches on the same day, both Clubs nevertheless fulfilling their commitments to the Intermediate League.

Home opening batsman Ashley Cattle played the anchor role, carrying his bat for 42 not out, Jack Chapman (28) and the evergreen Stuart Craven (39) the other major run contributors in the Grange score of 134 for 7, Phil Rusling picking up 3 for 23 from 7 overs, his 3 wickets claimed in 4 balls.

Opening batsman Andy Hancocks (54 retired), Tom Kitching (17), Joe McNair (13 not out) and Mike Cooke (24) saw Fenner through to 136 for 4 in the 30th over for a comfortable 6 wicket win.

Reigning League Champions Hull Zingari look to retain their title and recorded an impressive 9 wicket win at Dunnington who collapsed from 92 for 2 to 125 all out, Alex Brown (3 for 17), Mike Gravill (3 for 13),Matthew Russell (2 for 13) and John Hyde (2 for 25)doing the damage with the ball

Dan Leather (21). Mike Gravill (50 retired) and Mahir Youseff (28 not out) saw Hull Zingari cruise home at 129 for 1 with 16 overs to spare, to maintain third position in the league.

The Goole Town fixture against Dunnington, originally scheduled for Sunday 3rd May and subsequently Sunday 15th June, has been awarded to Goole as no new date can be agreed between the two Clubs and it was Dunnington who requested the original change in date but could not fulfill the fixture on the second date due to a fixture clash.

In the Northern Section the Dringhouses v Malton and Old Malton fixture has been re-scheduled for Sunday 28th June, amicably agreed by Malton at the request of the home team, whilst the other three games saw Sheriff Hutton Bridge retain their 100% start to the campaign with a 6 wicket victory at Pickering, Sessay squeezed home at York by 3 wickets and Ouseburn thrashed Heworth by 9 wickets.

Oliver Rose (4 for 28) and R.Goldsmith (3 for 3 from 4.5 overs) sent Heworth crashing to 78 all out, only opening batsman S.Clark (17) reaching double figures, S.Daw (45 not out) and R.McKewen (27 not out) seeing Ouseburn through to victory at 79 for 1 in just 13 overs.

J.Greenlay (51 retired) and I.Smith (30) scored the bulk of Pickerings all out total of 139 at home to League Leaders Sheriff Hutton Bridge,Jordan Grose (3 for 30) and Simon Naylor (3 for 29) both bagging 3 wickets each, whilst a solid batting response led by Mark Fisher (42 not out), David Phillips (32) and an unbeaten 21 from Andrew Ball saw SHB home at 141 for 4 with 7.3 overs to spare.

York CC Captain Kyle Waite (50 retired) and 35 from Will Stephens saw their side record a first innings total of 166 for 7 at home to Sessay, Jacob Spencer (3 for 22) the pick of the visitors bowling.An unbeaten 52 from Chris Till,batting at number nine saw Sessay through to 170 for 7 and a 3 wicket win in the 39th over.

The one outstanding fixture from the Northern Section was played on 28th June, and resulted in a 5 wicket win for Dringhouses over Malton and Old Malton a result which sees Dringhouses move into second position of the Northern Section of the Competition at the half way stage of the season. Malton elected to bat on winning the toss but were dismissed in 31.3 0vers for 127, only B.Holtby (38) featuring with the bat as 4 home bowlers all claimed two wickets each. Home Under 15 player Alex Dale (40 not out ), Chris Storey (39) and Tom Owen (22) ensured Dringhouses reached their victory target at 129 for 5 in just 23 overs, B.Gill (2 for 22) and D.Fogg (2 for 32) both picking up 2 wickets for the visitors.
