Pickering beat York by 68 runs

Pickering are the new YDSCL Intermediate League Champions following yesterday's 68 run win over York CC in the Intermediate League Championship Final held at Londesborough Park Cricket Club.

Pickering batted first and totalled 156 for 9 in their allotted 40 overs, depending largely on a 62 run 7th wicket partnership between wicket keeper Ricky Lawrence (29) and Ryan Boyes (24) to post a competitive total whilst the Pickering score was further boosted by a total of 33 extras including 15 wides. Felix Adams (4-16) and Glen Richmond (2-14) were the pick of the York bowlers, with the latter also claiming three catches.

In reply, York made a disastrous start losing half their side with just 13 runs on the board and, despite a 58 run partnership between Kallum Ahmed (49 not out) and Glen Richmond (19) for the 6th wicket, York were dismissed for just 88 runs in a total of 24 overs.

Opening bowlers Edward Cass (3-18) and Jack Crannage (2-25) did the early damage with the ball for Pickering backed up by Shaun Smith (2-16) and Alex Ibbotson (2-5) and some excellent out fielding.

League Chairman Paul Harrand congratulated both teams on an excellent game of cricket, played in a good spirit, and thanked Londesborough Park for doing an excellent job in staging the Final. Immediate Past President George Myerscough presented the trophy to Pickering Captain Edward Cass and also the Man of the Match Award which went to Pickering wicket keeper Ricky Lawrence (29) for getting his side's top score and making a smart stumping to get rid of Yorks top batsman, Simon Lambert for only 2 runs.

The Clubs' scorers, Gary Billingham (York) and Alistair Barker (Pickering), were also presented witn momentoes as were the two Umpires, Paul Wilkinson and Malcolm Ripley, the latter celebrating 50 years of umpiring.
