Fenner Cricket Club finished in Runner-Up position in the Yorkshire Cricket Board Six-a-Side Competiton held at Headingley Stadium on Saturday. Fenner won three of their four games, beating Azaad CC from the Huddersfield League by 4 wickets, with Richard Barker and 2nd XI Captain Phil Daniels both claimimg two wickets apiece as the West Yorkshire were bowled out for 43 with the Marfleet Club reaching their winning total of 44 for 2 with 2.3 overs to spare.
Daniels (22) and wicket keeper/batsman Peter Shally (20) top scored in their next game but it was in vain as the Marfleet side were beaten by 41 runs against Sheffield Hallam University, the eventual winners of the Yorkshire Cricket Board tournament for the second successive year. The student side, which included Dunnington CC all rounder Adam Iyer, will be looking to go one better than last season when they were the beaten finalists in the National Finals held at Lords.
In their third game, Fenner recorded an excellent 24 run over Bradford Leage opposition in Undercliffe CC with Captain Craig Denby (19),Paul Scrowston (21) and Richard Barker (21) all featuring with the bat in their 8-over score of 76 all out whilst Undercliffe were held at 52 for 4 in response with 14 year old Will Rhodes picking up one of the wickets to fall with some impressive pace bowling.
In the final game of the tournament Fenner went on to beat Pontefract League side Hatfield Town by 1 wicket, with Barker 25 not out capping a fine afternoon's work in helping Fenner record a last over victory at 72 for 5. Earlier in proceedings some excellent fielding brought three run outs and helped restrict Hatfield to 69 for 3 in reply thus enabling Fenner to finish in the runners-up position and cap a fine afternoon's work by the youthful Fenner team.
