COUNTY CHAMPIONS!

A successful 2008 campaign saw York & District lift the County Title with a comfortable 113 run victory over Barnsley at Methley CC. A thrilling 9 run victory over Aire/Wharfe, coupled with two rain-affected group games, saw York qualify for a semi final against Huddersfield. A comprehensive 10 wicket victory took York to the final, 4 wickets each for Thomas Atkinson and Jack Leaning bowling Huddersfield out for 110, a total passed for no loss with 67 from Matthew Hattee and 36 from Joe Watson.

In the final, a total of 233 for 9 - which included contributions of 43 from Ryan McKendry, 58 from skipper Chris Bilton and a top score of 70 by Ben England - proved too much for Barnsley. Joe Watson (3-16) and Ben England (4-15) then saw York & District to the title, much to the delight of Manager Derek Lancaster and Assistant Coach Dick Whaley, while Ben's all-round performance rightly earned him the "man of the match" award.
