The 2009 LT U11 Festival got off to a disappointing start, the first of the 3 group matches at a damp and overcast Redcar CC against North Yorkshire, ended in a low scoring defeat for York. Batting first, York could only manage 55 runs before being all out in 20 overs. Despite Matty Fisher's 2 wickets in the first over of the home side's response, the early break through wasn't enough to prevent North Yorks easing to a 7 wicket victory in 14 overs.

Next up was an away trip to the Festival favourites and defending champions, Heavy Woollen. After winning the toss York elected to field and the hosts racked up 157 for 7 from their 30 overs, with Alex Burton being the pick of the bowlers with 2 for 18 from 6 overs. The York reply got off to a solid start with an opening stand of 46, setting Matty Fisher up to go on to carry his bat with an unbeaten 87, leading his team to a 4 wicket victory with 3 overs to spare. This fantastic result set York up with an outside chance of progressing to the semi-final stage at the expense of Heavy Woollen.

The final group game was hosted by Bolton Percy CC against Craven. York won the toss again, but needing to maximise bonus points, decided to bat first. Captain Matty Fisher lead from the front again, this time topping his Heavy Woollen performance with a maiden century, eventually falling to a close run-out for a superb 108. Supported by Giles Anderson 18 and Alex Burton 28 and a generous dose of extras, York set their visitors a formidable target of 229. Despite a determined effort, Craven were dismissed for 73 from 25 overs with Oliver Peeke-Vout taking 3 wickets for 2 runs from his 3 overs. This emphatic win was tainted by the news that Heavy Woollen had beaten North Yorkshire and in doing so had gained enough bonus points to finish top of the group by just 0.5 points, they would go on to successfully defend their U11 LT title.
