YORK JOE LUMB COMPETITION & LORD’S TAVERNERS COMPETITIONS |

Once again all age groups had some excellent cricket, and only two games were lost to the weather. At U13 we failed narrowly to qualify for the semi-finals, winning two and losing one of the group games, and suffering through loss of batting bonus points by bowling out Scarborough for a low score. The highlight of our season was Toby Pratt’s fine century against Heavy Woollen. Our U15s were extremely unlucky when they won the first three group games, which included a rare hat trick all clean bowled, by Chris Burn, in the last over against North Yorkshire at Marske. Then unfortunately, Huddersfield conceded their game with Pontefract, for which average bonus points are also awarded. Our game was rained off, leaving us 1.64 points from qualification for the semi-finals. Stars of the season were the Joe Lumb XI who won four of their five league games, and finished second to Bradford in the newly formatted three leagues competition. We then beat Sheffield in the semi-final, and overcame Bradford to win the final by eight wickets. This is our second success in the competition, the other being in 2004. The victory brought about a unique achievement by four of our players. Tom Atkinson, Ben England, Ryan McKendry, and Chris Bilton have played and won in all four competitions, U11s in 2004, U13s in 2006, U15s in 2008, and Joe Lumb in 2010, with Chris being captain in all of them. We would not be in a position to do all this without the support of all our Umpires who give their time at no expense to the organisation, and without the clubs who hosted our games, namely, Malton & Old Malton, Bolton Percy, Clifton Alliance, Stamford Bridge, Sheriff Hutton Bridge, and Stillington. Many thanks to all involved, and a special thank you to Duncan Renton, who umpired all the Joe Lumb games, and his wife Sue, who scored every Joe Lumb game for us. The managers, Jon Anderson, Mike Pickering, Graham Tipping, and Kevin Ambrosen, along with assistance from Jim Burdass, Alan Barton, Derek Lancaster, Duncan Renton, and Dick Whaley, deserve a lot of credit for their hard work and dedication, which in turn enhances the player performances and the way they conduct themselves on the field. Everyone one of us is indebted to Derek Lancaster for all his hard work as Secretary, Stand-in Manager, and Coach when required. Nothing is too much trouble, and we are very well organised in all age groups. Finally, we are grateful to our sponsors, G.V.A.Grimley Ltd. and O.H.S Ltd. U11s, Dave Tompkins Roofing Ltd. and Decking Solutions U13s, and Optivision Ltd. Joe Lumb. Thanks also to our friends who gave other donations and raffle prizes, together with the supporters of the Bat Raffle at The York Senior League Annual Dinner.
