Report by Jon Anderson

In the first of their three group matches, York Lord's Taverners U11's secured a well deserved victory against North Yorkshire Lord's Taverners at Malton & Old Malton CC on Sunday 4th July. After being put in to bat by the visitors, the York opening batsmen Will Huffer and captain Ted Patmore played with confidence to build a 33 run opening stand, both fell in quick succession bringing Cameron Burdass and Sam Pocklington together. They were the pick of the York batsmen compiling a 3rd wicket stand of 85 with Burdass making 46 and Pocklington 34 and demonstrating some excellent running between the wickets. York finished their 30 overs on a very respectable 142 for 7.

In reply, North Yorkshire were restricted by some accurate bowling from Jack Charters and Jay Snowden, backed up by other good spells from all of the York outfielders, particularly Sam Elliot who grabbed 3 wickets for 3 runs from his 3 overs and Alex Wilson, Ted Patmore and Sam Pocklington who each picked up 2 wickets. A sharp stumping from Ben Harris and some excellent fielding kept the opposition to 97 for 9, giving York a comprehensive 45 run victory. Their next match is against the Yorkshire champions for the past 3 years, Heavy Woollen, at Bolton Percy CC on 11th July.

This Sunday's game (11th July) is at Bolton Percy CC vs. Heavy Woollen, starting at 2pm; please be at the ground for 1:15pm. Just to add a little bit of spice to the fixture, they have won the Yorkshire U11 Festival for the last 3 years, although we beat them at their place last year, so it would be great to do the same this Sunday!

The team is :

Will Huffer (captain), Sam Elliot, Sam Pocklington, Dan Cass, Alex Wilson, Ben Harris, Jack Charters, Jay Snowden, Andrew Shepherd, Archie Stephenson and Matthew Roberts.
