FOLKTON & FLIXTON WIN READMAN TROPHY

Folkton & Flixton won the Edward Readman Trophy for an unprecedented third successive season when they defeated first time finalists Fenner by 4 wickets in a closely fought encounter at Beverley Town Cricket Club.

Fenner were invited to bat first in the competition’s tenth final and were given a flying start by openers Steve Hewitt and Craig Denby. With a bonus of 15 runs under the competitions handicap system, the second division side raced to 67 before first change bowler Ben Elvidge had Hewitt caught behind by Darren Ellis for 33. The same bowler also removed Denby for 23 as the slower bowlers applied the brakes. Mid order cameo knocks by Sam Fuller 20, Ian Pratt 29 and Paul Scrowston 24 helped the Hull based side’s cause but a telling 7 over spell by acting skipper Damon Gormley earned him fine figures of 4-28 and helped dismiss Fenner for 188 with just 5 balls un-used. LEAGUE REP XI REACH NIXON FINAL
A magnificent century by Acomb's Andy Tute set up a 158 run victory for the Hunters York Senior League over The Dales Council and enabled the York side to qualify for the final of the Nixon Yorkshire Inter-League K.O. Competition which they last won in 2006.
Batting first at Drighlington the York openers Andy Tute and Matt Beckett of Stamford Bridge put their side in total command with a 171 run opening stand which was totally dominated by Tute. When he was out after hitting nine sixes in a 101 ball innings he had amassed 151 which is believed to be a record score for a York player in a representative game. His parner Matt Beckett made 39 before the innings was further boosted by Goole Town's neil Foster whose 41 helped York reach a total of 305-7. Ali Asgher, with 3 for 70, was the most successful bowler for the host league.
In reply G Suri hit 65 for the Dales Council but a good all-round bowling display  had them all out for 147. Richard Medforth (Hornsea) emerged with the best return of 3 for 33 whilst Tute added 2-15 to his earlier heroics and there were two wickets apiece for Thirsk's Dave Towse 2-35 and barry sayer of Clifton Alliance who took 2 for 44.

Dales Council 147    (G Suri 65, R Medforth 3-33)
Hunters York Senior League    305-7    (A D Tute 151, M Beckett 39, N Foster 41, A Asgher 3-70)

TUTE HITS SECOND CENTURY IN SIX DAYS

On a day that saw  one bowler claim nibe wickets and three others eight wicket hauls, pride of place again goes to Thirsk’s Barry Petty who claimed his eighth eight wicket haul to move into third place in the records behind Duncan Steel and Steve Whitaker who each took 8 wickets in an innings on 10 occasions. Just three weeks after claiming 8 for 47 against Dunnington, Petty grabbed 8 for 33 to send bottom placed Hull Zingari to a 134 run defeat. Petty’s latest octet was his sixth in the top flight and puts him level with Mick Oldfield who had a similar number of 8 wicket hauls prior to the establishment of the premier division.  Thirsk’s total of 211-7 was built on a 2nd wicket stand of 124 between Liam McKendry 63 and Gary Bolton 62 and was 60 runs better than any other premier total on a day dominated by bowlers.Shaun Holmes made 30 as Andy hamson took 4-54 before his side were swept out for a mere 77 as Petty became the first bowler to reach 50 premier division wickets in the current campaign.

Six days after posting a record 151 for the League’s representative side, Acomb’s Andy Tute again hit the century trail as he raced to an unbeaten 103 to sweep his side to an 8 wicket win over bottom placed malton & Old Malton. Gary hall made 40 for malton but Adrian Fong 3-47 and Andy Tute 3-32 joined forces to dismiss them for 125. Tute then totally dominated Acomb’s successful reply making all but 24 of the winning total of 127-2.
